New repeater
« on: November 29, 2014, 10:52:58 am »
Hey listen admins as a donor and subscriber at this point in Time I feel the new repeater should have been up for thrbeaservenders like myself and others like me but but like I've had a discvusion with 722, and 599 it might be in you best intrest to ask all Shriners for a one time donation of $30 dollars or up the amout you have to scribe to get the things that are said to be done or need for future use for SHRFLI to thrive! Now this is only a suggestion but do do believe it would be in our community's best intrest. I would not have a problem giving a little more to get a little more, Guy you must relize the winter is here and the subscribers you have on the east end will be left in the dark if you guys don't do something soon.Sincerely Ron WQTP202

Ron and . , you both bring valid points and again I personally can stress that us owners are feeling the same way. If we had our way this would have been set up months ago. We continue to make strides in giving everyone the best experience on the current machine by improving the back up system that is in place. For each piece of equipment that we have in use we need to have a second piece as a back up. This being proved by the latest repeater outage. So now take that same concept and multiply it by another site and obviously costs rise. These are not home brew repeaters that we put together as the commercial sites that we are working with would not allow that. I can tell you this. We would love for everyone to reach into their pockets and pay the way for this to happen but it's not feasible or professional for us to ask anyone of that. We continue as owners to try and raise capital as sometimes this helps with equipment purchases and site maintenance by means of promoting and getting new subscribers as well. If anyone is looking to donate I thank them and appriciate the support. In the meantime let's keep this thread going so it acts as a means for us to update you guys on where we are at for the east end link.

More to follow.

To expand on Mr. Dots idea, I wonder if our connection with CERT could lead  to the use of an OEM site?

Could possibly but keep in mind that they get substantially less coverage then we get. Looking at most municipal tower structures their antenna height is about half AGL of what we currently operate. Medical center is nassau's prime spot but coverage does not necessarily change nor help suffolk and their will be additional expenses including outdoor cabnit,  commercial grade duplexer and our own antenna system.

NUMC is a consideration with the right contacts and factoring the initial investment. But we worry about other things such as if we were to get on the top section. If not we would block out n e s or west being on the lower section. Again. This will not help our east end members which is our primary goal at this time. As far as your post . I checked the moderation log and do not see it deleted nor being posted. Please feel free to post whatever you want and if there is a issue, I will let you know as I always have.

I must admit I find this Posting and subsequent replies very confusing.
- what sparked it, did I miss something that was going on?
- are we in $$ trouble?

on a lighter note, I do like the fact that Allen has embraced my "Mr Dot" reference ;)

Ok Dave, thanks for the explanation. I really don't think your method works because I notice you online right away, but hey if it makes you feel more secure then good.
