Mr Dot, I'm just trying to drum up activity, not looking to make any political statements.

Oh I fully appreciate your efforts and didn't say LOL about your comment asking others to join in. I think that your thread is important but was giving an opinion about why there are only the same group responding.

With water be careful that the container can withstand the expansion when the water freezes

Remember alcohol won't freeze and may make the wait more tolerable ;)

OK, here's what the essentials should look like for a two day snow bound emergency stay in your car on the LIE.
GMRS Radio
2g Water (leave room for freezing)
Health bars
MRE's
Potable solar power (http://www.amazon.com/Poweradd-Foldable-Portable-Smartphones-Bluetooth/dp/B00HMXKMVU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1416841922&sr=8-3&keywords=portable+solar+panel)
Power Inverter (http://www.amazon.com/SABRENT-Watt-Power-Inverter-Charger/dp/B00EPAMCXY/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1416842139&sr=8-11&keywords=power+inverter)
Blankets or emergency foil type
Toilet Paper
Jar for you know what
Flashlight
Hand and Feet warmers
Folding cheap shovel

I think that's good without getting to crazy. Picture of mine coming soon.

MRE's are a great idea.. i thinkit may also be good to have some of those pocket hand warmers. foil emergency survival blanket is another must have in a cold emergency. they fold up tiny and the foil really helps reflect the heat back into your body. i like this thread!

Those pocket hand warmers have an expiration date.. The two we used while hunting sucked.. I think having a catalatic heater is a better option.. Runs on propane.

I highly disagree. Because that would require storing propane in your car. Not safe!

Just my thoughts

Propane tanks are designed to vent if the pressure inside increases to an unsafe level.  That vented propane would be a risk for ignition in a small enclosed space such as a car and there is a spark.  Also imagine getting into an accident even with a small 16 oz tank.

But if someone knows better then well hopefully nothing goes boom.

Hahaha

But seriously... Ill be warm and you will be cold.. Does not matter to me..  Those heaters are designed to work.. Hand warmers don't work if older than a year.. The other does not have an expiration date..

What about a jacket, hat and gloves?  I always keep a heavy coat (carhartt type) and gloves and hat in each of my vehicles.
