****Whats a NODE****
« on: September 07, 2021, 09:06:47 pm »
So hello, You found it. You might have heard the term (NODE) passed around a lot lately. So nodes where to start? lets start with the term VIOP "voice over internet protocol" we all have either used or seen of this before some of us actually have them today. if you live on long island and have Verizon phone then you have it. your phone gets plugged into you internet not your "phone line" so its not a traditional phone it operates on the above stated voip. so when someone picks up the receiver and starts to dial out they are actually calling an extension number thus brings into the next topic ROIP (RADIO OVER INTERNET PROTOCOL) essentially using radios over the internet, now I know that my ht has wifi but not close what your thinking. Your VOIP phone has a integrated chipset IE a PCB board with a sound card and controller all set up to work on private and public servers. So what the radio community has done has used this asterisk server scenario and based their coded Linux software platform to make a radio extension system IE a Node is a theoretical extension so you can have a one on one conversation join a giant group call with the entire coast line. Now heres where it get complicated, theres no mass produced radio that can get on this network yet… but others have used Raspberry pi (very cheap and credit card size open source computers) with modified cheap low watt transceivers littlerly taken down to circuit board and made them mini repeaters I use this term very loosely but the term makes it easier to understand. So they take that radio and use a uri serial to USB cable to have the transceiver work with the pi as a gateway into the network. So heres where it gets crazy I have found a guy that turned a cm108 audio card in to a PCB board that accepts a SA818 micro 1 watt transceiver, and when I say small I mean like 2 micro SD cards and this gets soldiered to the cm108 variant board that snaps onto your pi. In the easiest way possible to explain throw this unit in your vehicle give it wifi and the range is unimaginable endless and unless you park 3 city blocks you could hit it from anywhere in your house or work shoot put a battery pack in you pocket and its always on you.. just saying when its a hobby and not for survival its crazy where will we go next. Thank you all who took the time too read feel free to pm me or reply if your have any questions.
