Severe Weather Awareness Week in New York

April 26th through May 2nd, 2020

 

Kick Off
Governor Andrew Cuomo has declared this week, April 26th through May 2nd 2020, as Severe Weather Awareness Week in New York. NOAA's National Weather Service (NWS) joins Governor Cuomo in partnership with the agencies of the New York State Disaster Preparedness Commission, local agencies, volunteer agencies and private sector organizations in urging all residents to learn how to protect themselves from the hazards of flooding, tornadoes, and severe thunderstorms.


Severe Weather Awareness Week is a time to learn more about thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning and flooding[ and prepare for the dangers they bring to New York state during the spring and summer seasons.


Each day of Severe Weather Awareness Week will focus on a different topic. This will have a primary emphasis on weather safety and preparedness. Below are the topics that will be covered.



The Weather Safety Topics for Week Will be as Follows:

Monday Apr 27:
Severe Weather Terms and Definitions.

Tuesday Apr 28:
Severe Thunderstorms.

Wednesday Apr 29:
Severe Weather Preparedness and Safety.

Thursday Apr 30:
Tornadoes.

Friday May 1:
Flooding.

Saturday May 2:
Weather Ready Nation.
