Hi.  I’m new to amateur radio but not to SHTF prepping.  I have a certain skill set that may be useful in such situations.
I am in Commack and interested in speaking with some folks over repeaters.  I do have my GMRS license call sign WRJS533

another new guy.
new gmrs & ham / general.
split time between bergen county, NJ & suffolk county,
enjoying learning about radio, having backup in case of shtf / cell & internet down, and camaraderie of a new hobby.
am in westhampton beach part time and so far have not succeeded in hitting any repeaters, hopefully will be easy to get on to the selden repeater and will try hitting plainview repeater from nj if possible...

BridgeComm Introductions / Hello from Huntington Station
« Last post by Mastergmac on October 15, 2020, 05:41:12 pm »
Hello,

I have been thinking about backup communications and my research has landed me here.  I happen to be situated at the Nassau / Suffolk county border and would like an alternate means of communication should cellphone / IP communications fail on Long Island.  I know nothing about FRS / GMRS communcations other than point to point which my family has used extensively when we travel, skiing, road trips, cruise trips, etc.  I would like to figure out how to use available repeaters in LI to extend our range of emergency communication coverage which I hope to do here.

Will apply for my GMRS license in the next few days.

BIG win for gun rights!!! I wonder what this will mean for New York. At the very least, it is a very strong case precident.

With all the disturbances going on I've implemented the following protocols. First of all, no travel into NYC, although Covid-19 sort of ended that for the near term anyway. Second, I keep tabs on social media which provide details on protest locations, dates and times. Third, I avoid protest locations. Fourth, I carry every item I am allowed to carry to provide protection to myself and family. This includes a generous amount of pepper spray in my vehicle to keep protestors from blocking my vehicle or trying to approach my vehicle unimpeded.
